Leia, Luke and Han welcome their unwanted guest aboard the Falcon and he has some demands before Leia explains to him exactly why he was freed.
The Clawdite was freed in order to take on the persona of the Moff of the Mon Calamari sector. After the alien refuses due to the amount of work it would take to learn the man, he is assured that all he has to do is watch a show for a few hours and they will collect him afterwards. After explaining the mission, the shapeshifter decides to take the job after the team appeals to the one thing he truly cares about, his ego.
As they make their way into the lower levels of the Man Calamari’s impressive, floating Opera House, Tunga finds out that Leia knows more about the Moff than she is willing to admit to her friends. Information that prevents her from taking an active role in the mission. That and her wanted status among the Empire. The droids make their way into the meeting hall before the show and they deliver a special drink to the Moff. Despite some interference, the plan seems to be working.
After picking up the Moff and putting Tunga in his place, Leia and her team decide to begin the next phase of their plan. Part of that plan means leaving the current mission in the hands of Threepio. As the rebels make their way past the first hurdle in their rescue mission, they find a new threat that could derail the entire mission; if it doesn’t kill them all first.
The intrigue and clandestine action in this issue work really well. Gillen does a good job of telling a new story while keeping the cadence and traits of these familiar characters intact. I love the art in this issue as well and the exterior details are great to look at.
