The Rundown: Lando and Lobot head to Jabba’s palace as the dark droids continue to take over.
Jabba’s latest protocol droid gets a last-minute reprieve from a memory wipe when the entity taking over droids across the galaxy targets it for assimilation. At the same time, Lando and Lobot head to Jabba’s palace right as the droid uprising has caused its inhabitants to run in fear.
As Lando finds himself surrounded by dark droids, he and Lobot are dumped into the dungeon under Jabba’s throne to find not only the droid they’re looking for, but also a sleeping rancor.
The Story: To be completely honest, as much as I enjoy the extended universe of these stories and how they fill the gaps in between the movies, this story was a little disappointing. It hit too many moments that I remember from Return of the Jedi and took away from their impact. There are also too many logic gaps in this storyline. Lando seeing Han in carbonite and not doing anything and facing off against the rancor under Jabba’s palace went too far in my opinion. I also can’t find anything compelling about this dark droid storyline at all.
The Art: Musabekov offers some great art in the issue and the characters and locations look great. I wish the story were stronger to justify the beauty of the art.
