The Rundown: Vader hunts Luke Skywalker as Leia looks for a way to save Han Solo.
Luke is racing his X-Wing across a polar sea trying to track Vader’s Tie. Unfortunately, Artoo isn’t able to find it due to interference. Intereference that gives Vader the advantage and the element of surprise as he goes after Luke. After a fierce chase through the ice, Luke finds a way to escape and strand Vader in the cold as he contacts the Falcon. Leia and Lando are making repairs to the ship as the imperial shuttle holding Han drifts alongside them.
It’s a race against time to see who will get their ship running in time to claim Han and escape. Unfortunately, both sides are going to have some competition in the form of a Hutt fleet. In order to get the Falcon’s systems up and running, Lando will have to make peace with an old friend. With the Hutt fleet between the Falcon and the shuttle holding Han, Leia calls in help from Luke, but Vader isn’t done with him yet.
The Story: Soule crafts an entertaining and exciting story in this issue. The Luke/Vader dynamic post Empire is intriguing because you don’t know if he’s actually trying to kill him or not. Lando grows and evolves as a character and Leia’s fight to save Han is endearing and salient to her as a character. The story has some great tension throughout, even better stakes and an interesting sense of peril given where it stands in the timeline of the larger story.
The Art: Rosanas delivers some awesome art throughout the story. The characters look great, the action is thrilling and the details are beautiful.
