Q decides that after the events of the first competition, it is time for the coaches to spend some time with their respective teams.

Trelane, Ayelborne and Metron are having a hard time dealing with Q as both the coach of one of the teams and the de facto gamemaster and Trelane thinks he has a way to change the game to make it more entertaining. After another back and forth between the players and Q, specifically Picard and Q, a new game is proposed for round 2.

Trelane is put in charge of the next round and decides that the game will be a classic round of Capture the Flag with the Enterprise, Enterprise E, Defiant and Voyager broken into two teams and tasked with both capturing the other team’s flag and protecting their own. When the Squire of Gothos decides that the game isn’t interesting enough, he decides to raise the stakes and introduce a planet killer into the mix.

All four ships will have to work together to find a way to stop the threat of the planet killer before it takes each of them off the board one by one.

Filled with nostalgia and almost pitch perfect characterizations, Scott and David Tipton continue to tell an entertaining story that could absolutely work as an episode of any of these shows. They not only capture the spirit of these individual shows, but they are able to bring to the issue all the themes that have made Star Trek so endearing to its fans. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next and who will raise the stakes of this game higher.

David Messina offers some great art in this issue and everything from the characters to the ship battles looks amazing.
