The Rundown: The Enterprise will find more deception as they look for a way to help a friend.
The Enterprise is caught in a trap laid by the Illyrians in order to force Starfleet to free Commander Una. As the danger to the ship increases, Spock must discover a way to free the ship before it is destroyed. In the aftermath, the Enterprise confronts the Illyrian ship again and manages to disable it and force them to talk.
The Illyrian captain offers to discuss the matter with Pike and Spike and the two beam over. After learning of the Illyrian home world and something on it that could be the key to saving Una, Pike is sent back to the Enterprise before the Illyrians warp our of the area with Spock as a prisoner. A prisoner that might be the key to surviving the toxic planet.
The Story: Entertaining and exciting, Beyer and Johnson craft a tense and intriguing story filled with great twists throughout. I really enjoy the mystery unfolding in this series and the intensity of the characters. I like the focus on Spock in this issue and his issues with his emotions. It adds extra drama to the plot and the cliffhanger in the issue makes me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Levens delivers some beautiful art on every page of the issue. The art is bright, beautifully detailed and filled with great action and visual drama.
