The Rundown: To save a member of the crew, Worf and the others will take on a dangerous political mission.
Key members of the Romulan political system find themselves being kidnapped by an elite team of operatives. The team’s precision leaves the powerful confounded as their prisoners find themselves dealing with the realization that Revo is responsible. At the same time, the military leader proceeds to the next part of his plan alongside his daughter Sela. A plan that sees Spock tortured and the rest of the Defiant crew acting as agents of Revo.
At the same time, Miles O’Brien continues his career teaching at the Academy and gets into a dark confrontation with a student regarding his career. A confrontation that forces him to rethink some things as he receives a message laying out a conspiracy the Defiant has become a part of.
The Story: As entertaining as these forays into the world of Star Trek consistently are, I found myself a little put off by elements of this story. It takes so much agency away from Worf and the other members of the crew by forcing them to work with Revo and makes me wonder why he would impart such a dangerous mission to unreliable assets in the first place. There are a lot of moving parts to this plan and none of them instill me with the confidence to think that this storyline will execute them in ways that could be surprising to the reader. Also, the torture scenes are unnecessary if Cantwell is trying to show Revo as a villain.
The Art: Unzueta delivers some fantastic art in the issue. I love the character designs and the dark tone of the visuals.
