The Rundown: The Defiant crew takes a trip to a dangerous planet to retrieve a familiar fugitive.
After securing one of their targets, the Defiant heads to planet Talos IV and Spock begins to see visions of his former Captain and friend Christopher Pike. Knowing something is wrong, he heads to the bridge as the vision of Pike implores him to take the ship. As the Defiant gets closer to the planet, more bridge crew receive visits from people from their past and that is when Worf realizes something is wrong.
After discovering they have been on the planet for days, Worf and the others confront Rasmussen who is holding them on the planet until they give him control of the Defiant and using the Talosians to help him. A plan that will reveal something dark about Starfleet and a logic error on the part of their captor.
The Story: Cantwell delivers an impressive story that is both fun and entertaining. The series is impressive in how it challenges Starfleet and the Federation through its action and the eyes of the characters who have dedicated their lives and careers to its ideals. While the story has a light tone to it, there are some heavy ideas being introduced within it that make the story more engaging and compelling.
The Art: Feehan and Rodrix deliver some impressive and beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I love the composition of the scenes and how well the different art styles complement each other.
