The Rundown: Worf gathers a new crew together to hunt for Kahless and his missing son.
In the wake of the attack on the Theseus by Kahless and his Red Path followers, Worf was forced to leave the ship in order to find a way to rescue his son Alexander who has joined them. His escape strands him on a Romulan colony planet where Spock currently lives.
After agreeing to join Worf on his mission to stop Kahless and rescue his son, the pair enlist some more familiar faces to crew the stolen Defiant and find a pirate syndicate that might have answers. A syndicate whose whereabouts will require relying on a much more dangerous familiar face. One who has no love for the Federation or Worf.
The Story: Cantwell crafts an entertaining and dark new story in this first issue. There is a great immediacy to the plot and I love that not only are there personal stakes for Worf within the story, but there is another threat to their mission looming in the background. There is an intriguing mystery growing in the story and I love all of the reveals in the issue, especially the final one. I’m invested in this story and what twists it will take next.
The Art: Unzueta deliver some stunning art in the issue. I love the look and visual style of the story and how the characters, including how they dress, play into the darker tone of the story.
