Today we got the insanely sad news that one of our favorite actors has passed today at the age of 79.
Rene Auberjonois, star of stage and screen died today from lung cancer at his home, according to his son Remy-Luc. Auberjonois’ co-stars and contemporaries took to Twitter to express their condolences including Deep Space Nine’s Armin Shimerman and Trek’s William Shatner.
It is with great heartache and loss I share with you the passing of dear,dear Rene Auberjonois.His last message to me was entitled “Don’t forget…” I know that I,Kitty,and all that knew him will never forget.The world seems noticeably emptier now. I loved him.

Auberjonois was a veteran of stage and screen starting his career in the 1960’s. He originated the role of Father Mulcahy in the 1970 Robert Altman film MASH. He appeared both in films and television throughout the decades in series like Starsky & Hutch, Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman and more as well as feature films like King Kong and The Patriot.

Rene Auberjonois is most well known for the straight laced, sarcastic character of Clayton Endicott III on the sitcom Benson in the 1980’s and the role of station constable Odo on Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Nominated for multiple Emmy and SAG awards, Auberjonois was a character actors who was instantly recognizable for both his skill at his craft and his memorable performances.
