Introducing Marvel’s flagship character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was no easy feat for Kevin Feige and company at Marvel Studios. But anyone that’s been watching the new iteration of the character in movies like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming knows that Spidey has taken his place as a member of the MCU.
Those same fans will be able to see him again in this month’s Avengers: Infinity War.
In the aftermath of that film, Spidey will return to the big screen in a sequel to Homecoming and, according to Kevin Feige, the sequel will be the kickoff for Phase 4 and will take place both inside and outside of New York.
“We start filming early July,” Feige said. “We film in London. We shot first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe.”
He also went on to explain how the sequel would be informed by the events of Infinity War.
“The way Civil War and the fact that he went to Leipzig Airport and then has to go back to school, informed Homecoming, the two Avengers films that precede [the sequel] will greatly inform, probably even more so, the next movie.”
Until the sequel arrives on July 5, 2019, we’ll have to be content with the next adventure of Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War opening this week.
