The Rundown: Spawn will commit the ultimate sin against his kind as the fight against the forces of Heaven and Hell heats up.
The forces allied against Spawn have taken a new brutal turn as a mass shooting in a small town flushes out the human host of the Redeemer and puts a target on his back. When Al and Jessica arrive, they take on the killer angels and Spawn finds himself face to face with Medeival Spawn. As the Spawns fight each other, Jessica mortally wounds one of the angels and escapes with the host.
As the battle rages and authorities arrive, Spawn makes a fatal decision regarding his fellow hellspawn and the host reveals his power. To make matters worse, Spawn’s act triggers an event that will take him to a dark and unknown time.
The Story: McFarlane continues to ramp up the action and adventure in this issue as the story continues to evolve for both Al and his mission. There are some interesting and entertaining twists in this story and the plot moves brilliantly from one moment to the next. The dialogue is engrossing and it is gratifying to see the story take on more elements of mystery. I like not knowing what’s happening next and am intrigued to see where Todd McFarlane takes Spawn.
The Art: Both Alexander and McFarlane deliver some beautiful, brutal and detailed art in this issue. Alexander’s panels are fast paced and filled with action while McFarlane’s pages are filled with awesome details for the characters.
