In a move eerily similar to Marvel’s The New Mutants theatrical release, Sony has moved the Spider-Man spinoff ‘Morbius’ to another release date.
Morbius was scheduled to be released this month on January 28th, but now it looks like the vampire anti-hero will make his debut April 1, 2022.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Morbius has been moved on the release schedule. Morbius was originally supposed to hit theaters July 10, 2020. COVID forced the film to a new release date of July 31, 2020 and then March 19, 2021. The film, starring Jared Leto in the lead role, was moved again to October 8, 2021 before its last move to January of this year.
Fox’s final Marvel mutant feature The New Mutants made several release moves as well before it was finally released in 2020 after being completed in 2018. The move did not prove successful for the film financially, but Sony’s recent success in the Spider-Verse with both Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home might mean a different outcome for Morbius when it’s finally released.
We shall see.
