The much anticipated live-action adaptation of the video game series The Legend of Zelda is getting closer to the big screen.

According to a report in The Wrap, Sony and Nintendo have decided on a release date for the upcoming film helmed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball and produced by Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. The film is expected to be released March 26, 2027.

No word on the story of the upcoming film has been released yet, but the original game, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, featured the adventures of Link who was on a mission to rescue the princess Zelda from the evil Ganon in the realm of Hyrule. There have been multiple sequels to the original game released through the years including the recent ‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’ where players play as Zelda herself.

Nintendo is also working with Illumination on a sequel to the hit animated adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. as well with the original cast set to return. Sony has another video game adaptation set to release this year with the upcoming Until Dawn.
