The Rundown: In the aftermath of tragedy, Erica will receive some unexpected and unwanted help hunting the spawn of a monster.
The bodies of the dead children have been delivered to the school gym for identification and everyone is there to see if their missing child is among them. To make matters worse, no one conducting the investigation has any leads on what killed them or where to find it.
Erica decides to continue her hunt for the spawn of the creature she killed and is disillusioned by the fact that she can’t kill them. When her superior Aaron arrives to educate her on why, the two get into a heated debate. A debate that will force Erica to come to terms with who she is and what she must do to kill the creatures. Unfortunately, her plan runs into a snag because she is being watched.
The Story: The story in this issue is darker than the previous ones and that darkness comes from the sobering reality of the situation. Seeing the impact on the town and the parents of the dead children does a great job of not only setting the tone for the rest of the issue, but also gives more emphasis on Erica’s internal struggle. Her interaction with Aaron is well done and speaks to a past that I want to see explored.
The Art: Dell’edera does amazing work with the art. The story is character driven and the art reflects that through dynamic close ups and beautifully drawn panel progressions. A great looking issue.
