The Rundown: Erica finds her latest investigation hampered by an angry young woman and a new type of monster.
At the scene of a slaughter, a mysterious woman stands in the kitchen pouring a cup of tea. Covered in blood, she sits among the bodies of both monsters and kids. She is interrupted by a member of the House of Cutter who has a new mission for her. A mission that will bring her to the United States to hunt her target, Erica Slaughter.
In New Mexico, Erica confronts the girl at the center of the latest attack and finds that reaching her is a lot harder than she thought when the girl verbally abuses her. After leaving the scene and trying to get some information, Erica returns to the scene of the crime later that night and finds herself arrested by one of the local cops tipped off by the girl she’s trying to help.
The Story: James Tynion IV creates an intriguing and tense story in this issue. Erica’s mission is becoming more complicated than her last one and those complications are compelling and dangerous. I love the tension in the story as well as the defensive stance Erica is having to take throughout. There is a heightened level of danger in the story and I cannot wait to see how complicated and dangerous it gets.
The Art: Dell’edera delivers some beautifully brutal art in the issue. The opening pages of the story are beautifully composed and do a wonderful job of showcasing how dangerous this new character can be.
