The Rundown: The leaders of the Order arrive after they discover something unique about their new initiate.
As she waits to find out what happened to young Erica, Jessie wonders how much longer can she keep doing what she does given the emotional and physical toll it takes on both her and the victims she deals with. After a heart to heart with Gary, Aaron arrives and chastises them both for believing that Erica has failed. Jessie becomes incensed when she discovers the real reason Cecilia brought him and all of them are surprised when Erica stands before them perfectly fine.
In the aftermath, Erica is told about the different levels of training she will receive along with the different types of masks that make up the Order of St George. After getting her tattoo, she is taken to meet a member of the Order who gives her something dark to think about.
The Story: James Tynion IV delivers some great drama in this issue. The story expands in ways that give great context and insight into both the Order and Erica herself. Learning more about the structure of the organization is a great way to get the reader more invested in the world being crafted as well as the unique aspects of Erica that make her stand out. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Werther Dell’edera crafts some impressive visuals in this issue. There are great moments of shadow and darkness blended with light moments that speak to the emotion of the moments.
