The Rundown: As the parents of the missing gather to identify the bodies, the creatures who killed them get bolder.
Three more victims have been found in the woods outside the school gym and Tommy is the only witness. Covered in blood and babbling about monsters, the sheriff sends his deputies away to deal with the terrified young man before the two of them are interrupted by Aaron.
Knowing that the recent kills will not satisfy the creatures, Erica enlists Aaron and the sheriff to quickly bring all the children into the gym and lock it down before there is a bloodbath. When the creatures strike, everyone involved starts to believe it might be too late.
The Story: Everything gets more intense and action packed in this issue. James Tynion IV has raised the stakes for both the characters and the town with this story and I couldn’t put it down. Both the mystery of the Order and the attack on the town are compelling narratives that Tynion IV deftly explores in this issue. This is a great overall story that is expanding and moving in ways that are unpredictable and interesting. The story doesn’t shy away from the intensity of the plot or the violence of it as well and the story is better for keeping those elements. The reader connects to the characters trying to stop the carnage because there is a sense of urgency and terror throughout.
The Art: Werther Dell’edera strikes the perfect balance of beauty and brutality in this issue. The art matches the tone the story is taking and the creatures look great. There is a moment that Dell’edera builds throughout the issue that is well executed to shock and amaze the reader.
