Cable network Showtime held its Television Critics Association presentation and revealed details about their upcoming adaptation of the video game series Halo for the network.
According to Deadline, network president of programming Gary Levine spoke about the series and details were revealed including the series setting, lead character and showrunner.
The series, which is being prepped for a 2020 telecast, centers on the epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. And the iconic muscular astronaut known as Master Chief in the game will in fact be a lead character. Master Chief’s inclusion as the lead ends speculation that the series would be set in the Halo universe, but be told from the perspective of side characters to the main story.
Levine said that the series will be a new story, but assured fans of the series and potential viewers that they are working with Microsoft and 343 Industries to make sure that nothing they add to the series violates the canon established by the video games.
Lone Star EP Kyle Killen will serve as executive producer (alongside Steven Spielberg), writer and showrunner for the series. “We made conscious decision to hire a writer not known for sci-fi or big battle movies. We want to make sure we get the inside human drama.” said Showtime CEO David Nevins.
