Disney is prepping another live action remake of one of their classic animated features.
According to an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame) are developing a live action adaptation of the Disney animated musical Hercules for the big screen. The original animated film from 1997 was a musical retelling of the Greek legend which put the demigod on a quest to prove that he was a “true hero”.
Along his journey Hercules teams up with the mythical Pegasus and a wise-cracking satyr to prove to Zeus that he is worthy of joining him on Mount Olympus. Lying in wait to thwart those plans and overthrow the gods is Hades with help from the beautiful and sarcastic Megara. Disney and the Russo Brothers have already taken the next step in the process by hiring Dave Callaham to write the script. Callaham has already written the script for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe features Eternals as well as the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings film.
Joe and Anthony Russo will produce, but not direct the film and no casting news has been released as the film is still in early development.
