The Rundown: Shang-Chi and his siblings face the forces of Ta-Lo and discover a powerful weapon.
Shang-Chi and his siblings have traveled to Ta-Lo to rescue Shang’s mother and stop their grandfather from destroying them all. Unfortunately, they will have to get past the forces of the Jade Emperor. When their quest gets them captured by the Emperor and his powerful weapon, Chieftain Xin is called in to answer for his failure. What no one knows is that Xin has finished the spell that will grant him the power to destroy the legacy of Zheng Zu.
When Shang’s mother Jiang Li manages to escape from her father’s forces, she returns to help fight. At the palace, Shang is visited by the spirit of his dead father who tells him that he will need to steal the Jade Emperor’s powerful weapon if he has any chance of stopping his grandfather. When Xin turns on the Emperor, Shang-Chi will have to listen to his father and steal the power Ten Rings if he hopes to defeat him.
The Story: Gene Luen Yang deliver a powerful, intense and entertaining story in this issue. Shang-Chi’s internal battle to escape the legacy of his father is tested during this story and the external threat of Xin heightens the tension within the story and with its characters. There is great action throughout and a sense of immediacy that make the story more riveting.
The Art: Marcus To crafts some beautiful art throughout the story. The action is visually thrilling and the characters look fantastic. I love the style of the art in the story and how it conveys action and intensity.
