The Rundown: A medium is brought into a dangerous environment to be at the forefront of a new kind of therapy.

Alicia Wilkinson has the unique ability to speak to the dead in a world not only filled with believers and skeptics, but also dealing with the tail end of the Civil War. She is called to visit the Ashcroft Hospital in New York because one of the doctors there would like to use her unique abilities to attempt to heal some of the patients.

After arriving at the hospital, she is brought into an extremely tense and potentially dangerous group therapy session including patients suffering from multiple maladies as well as murderers. After the first failed attempt, they try again and Alicia manages to connect with something that makes a home inside one of the patients.

The Story: Clay McLeod Chapman crafts an engaging and interesting story in this first issue. I was impressed and immersed within the story immediately and find the character of Alicia to be compelling in what she has struggled against and the unknown that she is facing in a dangerous location. A thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining first issue that creates different and unique blends of terror both from the supernatural and the inmates all around. I am definitely intrigued by this story and look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Marcello Grassi captures the perfect tone in the art as the visuals immerse the reader into the dark, emotional terror of the character as well as the physical terror both from and towards the inmates.
