The Rundown: On what was supposed to be a routine delivery mission, a father and son will discover an adventure that will span the universe.
Kayden and his father are making their way through space on a mission to deliver some museum items to another planet. Bored at the prospect of traveling through space and never seeing anything cool, eight year old Kayden decides to visit the exhibits they’re hauling to take his mind off his boredom.
When what looks like another ship reveals itself to be anything but, Kayden and his dad are attacked by a space creature that tears their ship apart. Kayden’s dad Gil tries to rescue his son as they’re flung into outer space and separated. When they finally realize what’s happened, both father and son will have to try and find each other with nothing but the entire universe between them.
The Story: Jason Aaron and Dennis Hallum have crafted a wonderfully told story of fathers and sons. The first issue moves quickly, but it grabs the attention of the reader and doesn’t let go. Everything from the dialogue to the pacing works and engages the reader. The dynamic between Gil and Kayden feels natural and the adventure the writers have begun in this first issue definitely makes me want to find out what happens next.
The Art: Stephen Green crafts some beautiful art in this issue. From the characters to the amazing backgrounds, everything looks big and beautiful in detail and design.
