The Dragon children are spending time with family as Malcolm, Maxine and Angel are spending some time together. Time that Angel openly objects to, but does not prompt her to stop the activity the three of them are engaged in. She wants Dragon to talk to his wife about the her increased libido, but it is definitely becoming part of Maxine’s personality and I can see where it is both a fun character choice and an interesting plot point to continue to explore.
At Genetech Laboratories, two of the high ups have decided that they need to let one of their scientists go and they openly wonder how big and violent a reaction he will have. After confronting the man, his exit seems to go pretty smoothly. Something you know will not end well for everyone involved. They continue to lament the decision until an unknown force breaks into the lab and slaughters everyone he can find. His rampage draws the attention of Dragon and Angel who discover they might be in over their heads with this fight.
I really enjoy the pace of this issue. Larsen does a great job of making these characters fun to read and complex enough for their stories to keep the reader’s attention. Malcolm and Maxine have a fun relationship that continues to buck trends and adds an extra level of drama and tension to their interactions. Something is definitely brewing inside Maxine and it’s going to be interesting to see what happens when everything unsaid between the two of them comes to a head. Angel adding to the drama only amplifies the situation.
Larsen’s art is always great and he really does a great job of building to moments that are unexpected, funny and surprising. Both the personal and action beats contain an unexpected visual element that definitely gets your attention as a reader and I really enjoyed those moments. Another fun issue that is engaging on different levels.
