Freak Force is on a mission. One that brings them in direct opposition to the orders of the President of the United States, but they are determined to enter Dimension X and retrieve Angel and Alex. At the same time, Dragon and family are dealing with a family issue. One that causes a little bit of a rift between Malcolm and Maxine that they manage to resolve in a rare moment of peace.
In Dimension X, Angel and Alex manage to find some peace for themselves as they deal with the loss of Angel’s mother. It’s a pretty somber interlude, but it’s effective in giving their mission context and touching on a bigger plot thread. As Dragon and family head out into the streets with the crew of their reality show trailing them, a new threat emerges from a tragic accident with a new, and slightly ridiculous, mission to achieve.
Larsen has written a fun issue here that deftly balances the many plot threads the series is working on from Dragon’s disappearance to Angel’s relationship with her mom and so on. It’s a testament to the writing that none of the stories feels unnecessary or out-of-place and if this were the first issue that someone picked up, they would be able to find their footing in the story pretty quickly.
Larsen’s art is great as well. His use of perspective and detail makes the characters stand out, but also gives enough detail to the backgrounds to make them interesting as well. His panels are all rich in detail and great to look at. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
