It looks the CW is expanding on the universe they created with the hit series Riverdale.
Another series is in the works at the network based on another Archie comics character Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Now this would not be the first time Sabrina has graced the small screen. She had a family friendly comedy series in the 90’s starring Melissa Joan Heart. This series would be based on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a comic series with a decidedly darker tone that deals with otherworldly threats like demons ala Supernatural.
The new series is being developed by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter who brought Riverdale to life. While there were rumors that Sabrina would make her debut in the second season of Riverdale, the executive producers seem to be trying to keep Sabrina in her own world for now. In an interview with comicbook.com, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke about the potential for Sabrina to come to Riverdale.
“The truth is, we did talk a lot about introducing Sabrina, but she’s such an important character and it’s such a big idea to introduce the supernatural into a natural world that honestly when we got to the finale, we kind of realized that there was so much stuff to play that if we introduced Sabrina, it would kind of overshadow everything that we had planned,” he said.
This doesn’t negate the possibility of Sabrina showing up in the future, but it might be more interesting to see her develop on her own and build her own world rather than by bound to the confines of Riverdale.
