Ryan Reynolds is developing an action comedy set in the video game world with Shawn Levy.
Levy, who recently departed the in development Uncharted film as director, has signed on to produce and direct a new film starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2) called Free Guy.
Free Guy will tell the story of a video game NPC (non-player character), played by Reynolds, who discovers that he is living in a video game world. He must team up with a human avatar in order to find a way to stop the game makers from shutting down his world.
The film is already assembling its cast which will include Jodi Comer (Killing Eve) as the human avatar named Molotov Girl. In the real world, she is a mousy programmer who created the world and was devastated when it was stolen from her.
Lil Rel (Get Out) will play Reynold’s best friend and fellow NPC who doesn’t believe his friend’s claims. Joe Keery is also on board as a programmer with his own agenda for the game.
Free Guy is written by Matt Lieberman and will be produced by Levy, Reynolds and Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti. The film will be released by 20th Century Fox and is expected to begin filming in April.
