Prolific director Ron Howard is out doing the rounds for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story when he explained that his latest work has inspired him to possibly revisit one of his previous films.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Howard talked about possibly returning to the world of Willow, the fantasy film he directed in 1988. During the interview, Howard said of a possible return; “I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow,” he said. “We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”
According to Howard, his experience directing Willow helped inform many of his decisions on the Solo set. “I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado.” Howard said. “Also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo.”
Starring Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis as the titular fantasy character, Willow told the tale of an infant named Elora Danan prophesied to end the reign of the tyrannical Queen Bavmorda. Davis’ Willow and Kilmer’s Madmartigan team up to prevent the baby from falling into the clutches of the evil queen.
