The Rundown: Damian Wayne learns the truth of his heritage from Mother Soul.
Lost in time and space, Damian Wayne finds himself in a temple where he meets a mother and son. He soon learns a startling truth. Mother Soul then describes Ra’s Al Ghul’s history including the Lazarus Pits and her own resurrection. Afterwards, Mother Soul does something unexpected. However, her move backfires and Damian shows his prowess.
In the present time, Damian is back on Lazarus Island in an unusual state. And his fellow competitors contemplate his situation. When he awakens, he tells the group of Mother Soul’s true identity. Then, someone unexpected arrives at the island.
The Story: Williamson creates a compelling narrative that details the accounts of the rise of Ra’s Al Ghul’s empire and the use of mysticism in his endeavors. It also gives an insight into the mindset of Al Ghul and his need to commit certain acts. However, at the heart of this story is familial understanding. It is the story of three generations of a family on how they differ on a spiritual level. I am curious to see how this plotline will develop and I can’t wait for the next issue.
The Art: This beautiful issue is filled with extremely detailed modern artwork. The attention to expression and form is absolutely captivating and provides the reader with a deep emotional connection to the characters. While the color work perfectly captures the tone of story.
