Robert Zemeckis, who brought audiences a vision of the future already in Back to the Future Part II has been tapped by ABC and Disney to produce a live action series based on the Hannah Barbera animated classic The Jetsons.
The original series chronicled the every day adventures of George Jetson as he and his wife tried to raise their kids in a changing world. The twist is that it took place in a future filled with flying cars, robot servants and advanced technology.
ABC has put out a pilot order for the series and from the information gathered, it looks like it will be a multi-camera sitcom set 100 years in the future and will chronicle the family’s lives through a modern filter.
Robert Zemeckis is the Academy Award winning director of Forrest Gump who has also directed hit films like Romancing the Stone, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cast Away and The Polar Express. He has an extensive background in creating new and interesting worlds as well as pushing the limits of special effects.
No additional details have been released about the project, but I will continue to monitor the story for any new developments.
