Sonja’s adventures in America are seemingly over when she confronts Wallace about the portal her created and what he sent through. As the frightened old man apologizes, she decides to drag him through the portal to stop the threat looming on the other side. The pair emerge in the middle of a desert surrounded by darkness with mountains in the distance. They continue on the hunt for Kulan Gath who is savoring his power in the city of Shamballah.
As his power increases, Sonja and Wallace find their way to a local town where the warrior has drinks and volunteers to be a part of a quest by proving to the disbelieving men around her how skilled she is. As the groups move through the desert, they are attacked by an army of the undead and as the survivors attempt to escape, Sonja and her team realize that they might be in a world with no escape.
The art in this issue is really great. I enjoyed the detail and composition of the panels. Gomez is able to capture both the savage sensuality of Sonja as well as the power of the character in a bad ass setting that looks great too. The story is done well with some great hero moments for Sonja, but there is a moment in the middle that drags a little but it is redeemed by the action towards the end. The character of Wallace is wasted and I hope that there is a reason for his presence that pays off.
