The Rundown: The Watcher must pay penance for his constant interference in the affairs of humanity as a bigger threat looms for the universe.

Uatu the Watcher has come to his home world to warn them of an impending attack. Unfortunately, their priority has shifted and they take him into custody. With the Reckoning threatening the Watchers themselves, Uatu’s father decides that it is time for his son to face the consequences of his frequent acts of interference in the lives of the heroes of Earth. Uatu pleads his case, but his father has a bigger concern in the form of Uatu’s penchant for looking into What If? Scenarios.

His father decides that he needs to see one What If scenario he never expected. What if Uatu never interfered with the coming of Galactus? Without Uatu’s interference, the Fantastic Four are called in by Nick Fury to check out something headed towards Earth. When Silver Surfer and Galactus arrive, a very different scenario plays out without the Watcher’s presence. One that will both change the Fantastic Four forever, but also Earth.

The Story: Slott creates an interesting story in this issue. There are some great character moments with Uatu and I enjoy seeing the vulnerability in the character. The use of the what if format is done really well and gives the reader an interesting and revealing look at a familiar event that could have had a more dramatic, but vastly different outcome. I like the pacing of the plot as well and the growing desperation of the character. I’m intrigued about where this story could go next.

The Art: Rodriguez delivers some great art in the issue. I love the classic look of the characters and how bright and lively the imagery was.
