The Rundown: Radio Spaceman travels to an alien planet for a dangerous rescue mission.
At a palatial home, an older man is awakened from his sleep by a phone call. After getting off the call, he proceeds to his laboratory. After waking the crew, he plugs himself into a device that allows him to take control of an astronaut on the other side of the galaxy. An astronaut on a rescue mission who will have to deal with enemy aliens and a missing doctor.
After landing on an alien planet, the spaceman disembarks and gets information on his mission before he is attacked on the surface. In the aftermath, he sees how dangerous the planet is and begins his search for the missing doctor. After discovering her being held by some dangerous creatures, he moves in to rescue her. Unbeknownst to Radio Spaceman, the downed ship was carrying some dangerous cargo and it is now loose.
The Story: This was an incredibly fun, vivid and entertaining first issue. All of the elements from the plotting to the humor worked and the world of this story captured my attention from the first few pages. There is a wonderful building of tension throughout the story and everything that was revealed felt fresh, new and unique.
The Art: Hinkle delivers some beautiful art from start to finish. The opening scenes have little dialogue, but perfectly deliver emotion, mood and tension with every panel.
