The Rundown: Profane races against time to put the pieces of his creator’s murder together while his nemesis works on a new plan.

After his sponsor in the real world is attacked by Honor De’ath, Profane races to his home to find him clinging to life as well as meeting a detective who is highly suspicious of his presence. As he and Lili continue their investigation, Profane discovers something in the book his sponsor was reading that could be a clue.

As things continue to heat up both with the case and outside of it, Profane discovers who his nemesis Red Glove could be targeting next. As they go to find another writer that could pick up his story, things get more desperate for the fictional detective when the real detective comes looking for him.

The Story: Milligan ramps up the action and mystery throughout this issue. It continues to evolve into an impressive and engaging noir style mystery with complicated characters and motivations. There are some really intriguing moments between Profane and many of the characters in this issue and even the acknowledgement of the difficulties he and the other fictional characters face in the real world is compelling. I really enjoy the pace of this series and look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Fernandez delivers some beautifully detailed and darkly engaging art throughout the issue. The visuals perfectly capture the noir style detective world the story takes place in.
