The Rundown: The first step in creating a new future for mutantkind is for Charles and Magnus to see the how their visions need to align. In the future itself, survival of the mutant species will require something else.
Moira and Charles visit Magneto and show him the secrets that Moira has been holding onto for a lifetime. With knowledge of what can happen if they don’t act together, Magneto joins his old friend in a new vision for the future of mutants. One that will have them take their place in the world without fear.
In the future, the conflict between mutants and humanity will take a dramatic step when the surviving X-Men reveal to their leader the information they were able to obtain from Nimrod. Further still, an alien intervention could be the catalyst for a new future for everyone.
The Story: I continue to be in awe at the scope, scale and ambition of this story. Jonathan Hickman is tackling some huge ideas and concepts in this series and this issue is revelatory in its depiction of both Charles, Mageneto and their evolution of ideologies. I love how this issue unfolds both in plot and pace and there are so many great moments throughout including the interstitial pages that broaden the reader’s understanding of the world Hickman is creating. This issue is another dive into something new and exciting for these characters and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The Art: R.B. Silva delivers some amazing art in this issue. Every page is beautiful and filled with details that capture the eye. I found myself going over panels again and again and seeing things I missed.
