Plastic Man #6
DC Comics
Written by Gail Simone
Art by Adriana Melo
Colors by Kelly Fitzpatrick
Letters by Simon Bowland
Eel is taking on the shape-shifter using his likeness to discredit the agent tracking down the mysterious cabal targeting the kid under Plastic Man’s protection. As Plas starts to get the upper hand, Dr. Psycho decides to confront Obscura on the scene and tell the woman what he plans to do to her. It’s a pretty tense scene among all the comedy and the finale of the fight leaves everyone in doubt.
As Psycho teleports himself and the shape-shifter to the cabal’s hidden base, he tells his team to take down the duplicate Plastic Man. Everything becomes confused until Eel makes his presence known and his emergence is an incredibly clever way of getting the upper hand on Psycho and the Cabal.
Gail Simone ends this limited series on some pretty solid ground for the character to return with this interesting and fun set of characters. The dialogue in this issue continues to be hilarious and the side stories create an interesting world that would be perfect for an ongoing series. That is one of the best aspects of Simone’s writing of this series. There are multiple avenues created that could bring her or another writer back to continue Plastic Man’s adventures, including the re-introduction of a classic villain from the heroes past.
Melo’s art is great in this final issue. The fights and actions are both great to look at and fun. Melo does a great job of making all of the character’s faces expressive and interesting. A fun conclusion to an interesting and fun series.
