Plastic Man #5
DC Comics
Written by Gail Simone
Art by Adriana Melo
Colors by Kelly Fitzpatrick
Letters by Simon Bowland
The shadow cabal of supervillains that Plastic Man believes doesn’t exist is meeting at their secret base. It’s an eclectic group that includes Amazo, Doctor Psycho and Hugo Strange. As they squabble amongst themselves, they do come to consensus that they need to take out Plastic Man for getting too close to their activities. Doctor Psycho decides that he has the perfect way to stop Plastic Man, by discrediting him first.
To his credit, Eel has decided to do the right thing by Pado and goes to Kirk Langstrom for help. When that fails, he decides to take the kid to the carnival for a day of fun. When he does what he thinks is best for the kid, everything backfires for him again right before he has to rescue Obscura from himself. Eel has a lot of things on his plate and his problems are going to get bigger when one of the ghosts of his past decides to look him up.
This series continues to be a fun ride and this issue moves the story along well to a conclusion that I am curious to experience. Gail Simone writes some great dialogue in this issue and there are some really great character moments that make the reader appreciate Eel as a whole person and not just as comic relief. She does a great job of making him both a loveable loser as well as a hero. Something that is difficult to do with a character usually relegated to comedy. There are some really fun moments in the story too and Simone has added enough snappy dialogue to make the story light and fun for the reader.
Adriana Melo has some fun art in this issue and all of the facial expressions are great to look at. Everything is really expressive and that helps to complement the tone of the story. Well done and fun.
