The next film in the Indiana Jones franchise is taking shape with the news that the female lead in the next film has been cast.
According to Deadline, actress, writer and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been cast as the female lead of the film opposite Harrison Ford returning as adventurer Indiana Jones. No information about her character was revealed, but it has been confirmed that director Steven Spielberg will not be returning to direct the fifth Indiana Jones film. He will continue to serve as executive producer on the film alongside Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy. John Williams has also confirmed that he is returning to score the film.
Director James Mangold (Logan, Ford vs Ferrari) will helm the new film.
Waller-Bridge is the award winning creator of series like Fleabag. She is also the executive producer of the series Killing Eve as well as serving as a writer on the upcoming Bond film No Time To Die. She is also executive producing, writing and starring in the upcoming Amazon series Mr. & Mrs. Smith opposite Donald Glover.
The fifth Indiana Jones film is set for release in July 2022.
