The Rundown: Dom and his new companion discover more about the world they’ve been stuck in.
Dom discovers that the woman he helped on the road is named Birdie and she recently lost her fiancé. After getting to know each other and continuing their drive through the desolate landscape, they discover a diner surrounded by the same creatures they have been running from.
The pair decide to try the diner anyway and discover a mysterious man inside who seems to know where they are and why. He also tells them that they are there to deliver what Dom has in the back of his truck. When Birdie tries to leave the diner and finds herself back in the real world, she and Dom will discover the object has a hold on them.
The Story: Lemire continues to craft an interesting and entertaining story in this issue. I enjoy the mystery being revealed within it and the unique premise and characters. Dom and Birdie’s dynamic is great and I love that they are both discovering together and both are equally lost. There is something intriguing about the pair learning about the in-between world by the mystery man in the diner and the things that he isn’t saying about where they are and why.
The Art: Walta delivers some great visuals throughout the issue. The art is beautifully detailed and does a wonderful job of complementing the tone and world of the story.
