Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has confirmed that she is returning to a galaxy far, far away.
According to multiple sources including Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins has confirmed that she is returning to Lucasfilm to pen the script for an upcoming adaptation of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Jenkins confirmed the news on The Talking Pictures podcast stating;
“We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning. So I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows? They have a hard job in front of them of, ‘What’s the first movie [since the sequel trilogy] they’re going to do?’ They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We’ll see what happens. We need to get it to where we’re both super happy with it.”
Jenkins was initially announced as the director of the project in 2020 from a script by Matthew Robinson. It was taken off Lucasfilm’s production schedule in 2021 with Jenkins still attached to the third Wonder Woman film. With Wonder Woman 3 no longer in development and Disney Chief Bob Iger scaling back production on television products, it looks like Rogue Squadron could be returning to the big screen sooner rather than later.
