The Rundown: Duncan and Brigette return home and Rose has a night of unexpected visitors.
Rose finds herself being held at gunpoint by Duncan’s mother Mary who is going by the name Nimue. As both of them are being watched by a third party, Nimue tells Rose about the circumstances that led her to not only have Duncan, but also her Galahad. Her story is filled with the contemptuous venom that she has for her mother and her reason for defying her for her own ends to align with Merlin.
At the same time, Duncan and Brigette return to their family home to investigate the circumstances for themselves and they discover the ritual Mary performed to entice Lancelot. Unfortunately, their investigation leads to the return of the knight who wants answers and will get them at the tip of a sword.
The Story: Kieron Gillen gets personal with this new issue and adds more layers to the story and its characters. The interaction between Rose and Mary is compelling and makes Mary a more interesting character as well as sets up a new conflict between Duncan and Brigette. The story takes more intriguing twists and turns as seeds of doubt are sown, new players announce themselves and the interpersonal drama intensifies. I can’t wait to see where it all leads.
The Art: Dan Mora masterfully tells this story visually with the art. Not only does it capture the mood of the story, but its emphasis on the characters allows for the dialogue to be brought to life with the mood of the characters and their emotions. A great looking issue filled with beautiful details.
