The Rundown: Duncan and Bridgette face down an epic hero and the outcome is part of Merlin’s larger plan.
Beowulf has been unleashed and the epic hero has been sent by Arthur and Merlin to kill Duncan and his grandmother. Using their skills and a little trick Gran has in her bag of them, they manage to stop the threat with only a minimum of destruction.
Unfortunately, the pair has started events in motion that will put both their lives into even more danger and that is exactly what Merlin wants.
The Story: Fast paced and full of action, Kieron Gillen does an amazing job of transitioning from the cliffhanger of the last issue to the pace and tone of this one. There are some great moments between Duncan and Bridgette and their dynamic works on every level. Duncan has become a better, more dynamic character with each issue and it is fun to see his evolution both in the eyes of his grandmother and in his reactions to the fantastic new world he has become a part of.
The story also sets up a fantastic cliffhanger with huge and intriguing repercussions for the characters.
The Art: Dan Mora’s art is absolutely amazing. Mora is able to brilliantly mix detailed characters and amazing action with every panel.
