The Rundown: A hero from ancient lore will be unleashed on Duncan and Gran.
Gran and Duncan are investigating the remains of a ritual in Sutton Hoo, but Gran is unable to determine who was there and why. It’s a mystery that will continue the conflict between the two even as the person responsible watches from the shadows.
At the same time, Arthur is treating Galahad of his wounds when Beowulf crashes into the castle looking for a fight. After facing off against Arthur, it will take the will of Merlin to end the fight and send Beowulf after his true target. As Rose gives Duncan and Gran more information about what they are chasing, they are attacked by a creature that even Gran believed was only found in fiction.
The Story: Gillen adds new elements of action, adventure and intrigue into this issue and the story is exciting to read. Duncan and Gran’s dynamic is one of the best in comics and this issue showcases why that relationship is so special and engaging to the reader. Gillen makes this story consistently interesting and entertaining. I enjoy this comic for its tone and themes and can’t wait to see where it goes next after the heart pounding cliffhanger.
The Art: Dan Mora consistently delivers beautiful artwork and this issue is no exception. From the gorgeously detailed creatures to the amazing action, this issue looks awesome.
