The Rundown: Duncan learns the brutal truth of his existence and Gran makes the ultimate sacrifice to stop Arthur.
With the Fisher King dead and the way to the grail shut, Gran tells Duncan the truth about both his conception and his purpose. Along with this information, Duncan discovers the identity of his mother. With time running out, Gran takes the lead again and makes Duncan admit something that will allow her to open another portal. Unfortunately, it will also require her to put a bullet in her chest.
Duncan is in a race against time to both stop Galahad from acquiring the grail as well as find a way to help Gran who continues to bleed out. With instructions from his dying grandmother, Duncan will traverse the otherworld and its wonder to confront Galahad and the grail procession.
The Story: Always fun and exciting, Kieron Gillen continues a story that is intelligently written and beautifully plotted. I love the way this story is laid out issue after issue. The characters are fantastically well done and every revelation builds on the rich, detailed tapestry Gillen is weaving with this tale. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next because so many interesting, thematic twists and turns that are satisfying.
The Art: Dan Mora lays out some beautiful visuals in this issue. The characters look fantastic. The action is amazingly detailed and there is a sweeping, cinematic beauty to the action.
