The Rundown: An archaeological dig unearths some interesting finds that will start an adventure filled with magic and murder.
After recovering a series of artifact from a dig site in rural England, a shadowy group murders to procure them in hopes of resurrecting a centuries old legend.
At a nursing home, Bridgette learns of the theft and immediately leaves to get to work. After calling her grandson to meet her at a secret location, the pair find themselves in a vault full of weapons and Bridgette telling an unbelieving Duncan that something is coming. Something that will attempt to stop her from her mission. When a supernatural beast appears to stop them, Duncan learns quickly that he is about to become part of something ancient and unbelievable.
The Story: One of the best aspects of this story is that Kieron Gillen takes the reader right into the story. He establishes the characters perfectly and executes their flaws and strengths immediately. Bridgette is an amazing character and you get the sense of of her spirit and toughness early on. She is formidable and that is something that connected with me as well as her non-nonsense attitude and ability to do what’s necessary. Duncan is exactly the kind of comedic yet potentially capable foil that she needs at her side and it will be fun to see how their history unfolds as this story progresses.
The plot and the dialogue are fantastic. Everything from the first page to the last makes me interested in this world, these characters and what happens next.
The Art: Dan Mora’s art is brilliantly detailed and every panel perfectly complements the pace and tone of the story. The characters look fantastic and the Questing Beast is amazing.
