The Rundown: A deadly enemy infiltrates Themyscira and wreaks havoc among the Amazons.
The story opens with Nubia making a request of the Goddesses. Later, she has an enlightening conversation with Phillipus. Elsewhere, Clio encounters something powerful. Meanwhile, the newest Amazons are invited to a competition. Once there, Andromeda proves her skills. However, a battle with Nubia unlocks old memories and causes her confusion. Afterwards, Nubia makes a stunning request of Andromeda. But before she can come to terms with her assignment, something unexpected occurs.
The Story: Williams provides a brilliantly crafted second chapter in the story of Themyscira. I am immensely fascinated by the Amazons and their backstories. Especially, this new version of Nubia. I like how this series is delving into her previous life and how it affects her decision making in the present. I’m excited to find out how this plot line develops and look forward to the next episode.
The Art: The illustration in this beautiful issue is filled with brilliant colors that give off a warm and inviting vibe. Themyscira is also a character in this tale, and I really appreciate the way the artists take the time to show off the island’s charms and iconic landscapes. It is also wonderful the way the characters have distinct physical characteristics, including the varying hairstyles worn by Nubia. The representation displayed on the pages shine out. And I hope both women and girls are able to see themselves in the panels.
