The Rundown: Following a tragedy, the Amazons must decide whether or not to proceed with an important competition.
The narrative opens with a funeral held in Themyscira where members of the three Amazonian tribes participate in a symbolic ritual. Afterwards, Nubia and other leaders discuss their views on an upcoming competition. Meanwhile, at Doom’s Doorway, the temporary guardians adjust to their new roles. Later, Nubia meets with Medusa to discuss a recent event. Finally, Diana makes an impromptu decision.
The Story: This final issue of this limited series follows the events in “Trial of the Amazons Part I.” I recommend picking up this comic for continuity, however, unfamiliar readers will be able to follow along with the story. Here, Williams creates a multilayered tale involving numerous members of the Amazons. While Nubia and her leadership style is at the forefront of the overall story, certain other characters play an integral part of the overall plot. I was impressed with the way Williams crafted the series and I am very happy that Nubia’s story will continue in other series. I look forward to more stories of the Amazons as well as future works from the members of this creative team.
The Art: This is a colorful issue that features detailed drawings. Also, there is an emphasis on character expression and form that creates an emotional connection that draws the reader into further into the story.
