A week after announcing that the streaming service would not be renewing Marvel’s Iron Fist, Deadline has another announcement from the streaming service.
According to an exclusive from Deadline, Netflix has cancelled Luke Cage. Both Marvel and Netflix confirm that the show’s critically acclaimed and popular second season will be the last on the service.
“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”
The cancellation came as a surprise to the writing staff under showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. The staff has been breaking scripts for a third season of the series. No word yet on whether or not the show will find its way to another network or Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
Luke Cage is the second Marvel series to end on Netflix after Iron Fist. The third season of Daredevil is now streaming and the third season of Jessica Jones is currently filming.
