The Rundown: Nightwing meets Nite-Mite, then goes on a mission to save a young girl’s soul.
The story opens in Bludhaven when Olivia faces an unseen enemy. The scene changes to the Gotham woods where Nightwing and Batgirl are introduced to Nightmite. Then, Nightwing and his “Night” team companions rush to save Olivia from a deadly enemy. Finally, Nightwing and Nightmite discuss the future in Blockbuster’s absence.
The Story: The mind of Tom Taylor is truly a work of art. This hilarious chapter not only introduces two promising new characters, but fires shots at Taylor’s anti-fans by directly addressing the areas of this Nightwing run’s most brutal critique.
This is a narrative that makes fun of itself in the best way. And I have to say is that it is one of the funniest comics I’ve ever read. I really appreciated the blend of character/plot development and comedy. There were moments when I literally screamed with laughter. Even more appealing is the misdirection from the previous issues cliffhanger. I had no idea the plot would evolve in such a wildly chaotic manner. This was definitely an episode I didn’t know that I needed.
The Art: The art has an energetic styling that perfectly fits the tone of the narrative. Bold coloring and attention to detail are an integral part of the illustration’s appeal and serves to create a transportive visual.
