The Rundown: Nightwing and Red Hood work together to defeat their enemies.
Barbara and Dick watch video evidence of Red Hood in a violent act. Nightwing then seeks out Red Hood. The two briefly converse, then head to the crime scene in search of evidence. Next, the former Robins head to Wayne Manor to analyze their findings. Soon, a message from Oracle, leads them to an encounter with a deadly foe prompting Red Hood to reveal a painful memory. Finally, Nightwing and Red Hood take on a criminal mastermind.
Meanwhile, in the past, Alfred asks Dick to return home from the Titans Tower. After arriving at Wayne Manor, he has a deep conversation with Jason. The two then go on patrol and Nightwing offers helpful advice.
The Story: Tom Taylor delivers a powerful and action-packed one-shot story in this year’s annual edition. The flashback scene between the brothers was sublime. Although he is a fine detective and warrior, Taylor’s depiction of Dick Grayson’s heart makes me fall deeper in love with the character with each episode. This is a perfect story, and I couldn’t ask for more in an annual edition.
The Art: This issue is beautifully done. The detailed artwork is filled with bold colors, and places emphasis on character expression and form. These factors allow the illustrations to visually represent the tone of the tale, and the action-oriented panels are really draw you into the story. Overall, I found this work to be completely engaging and transportive.
