The Rundown: A group of students find themselves trapped in a town with a deadly secret.
The town of Hill Creek has a dark and disturbing secret. When a group of students find their bus blocked on the road by a tree, they are forced to enter the town of Hill Creek and end up stuck by road spikes. A situation that has many people in the town on end because of a secret they are desperate to hide.
After finding the students lodging for the evening, some of the kids decide to check on the old woman hosting them and find her locked in a cage in the basement. A cage not meant to protect her from something, but meant to protect them from her.
The Story: Scott delivers thrills and chills throughout this issue. The story has all of the hallmarks of a great horror story as it brilliantly ramps up both the tension and suspense as well as the interpersonal conflict between many of the characters. I really enjoyed this story a lot and everything in it works from the characters to the setting. There are some great scares in the story and the reveals are executed well enough to make me want to see what happens next.
The Art: Fry delivers some beautifully detailed and visually immersive art throughout the issue. I really enjoy the visual style and the visual contrast between the characters and the monsters. There are some great visual reveals throughout the issue that I loved to see.
